No big presentation is No Problem for the Big N

Let me just say as I write this recap in the media hospitality room at the Las Angeles Convention Center that my first day at the Electronics and Entertainment Expo that it was everything that I expected and more! But to the task at hand, How did Nintendo do at the annual show without the bells and whistles that normally accompany a big media presentation. Nintendo did not disappoint and letting the media in before the actual show opened, pure genius. There wasn’t that much room in the hall where Reggie, Mr. Miyamoto, and their homeboy Mario, stole the show. Lets get into all the details…

What is the first thing you think of when I say “Nintendo?” Some of you might say Mario. Some of you might say Zelda. Some of you might say Smash Brothers. With the first presentation at the actual convention center,  Everyone wins. Nintendo’s golden boy, Mario was the Emcee of the presentation and he is starring in some up and coming Nintendo games for the Wii U. Nintendo being bailed out by Mario and Link. Just crazy enough that it just might work.

There is no secret that Mario seems to always transform into many different animals as power-ups. Cue the newest Mario game, Super Mario 3D World. I know the most logical power-up branch of power is raccoon/frog/hammer bros, then flying squirrel, and then a cat. You need to play the lottery right now if you managed to guess that power up. The ideal pro concept of the Cat Suit is being able to run on all fours and climb up walls for a limited amount of time. I played the demo and I can say that it transitions perfectly into the series.

Nintendo at times plays the nostalgia factor a little too much but it always seems to work. Super Mario 3D World is no different. The game is already being compared to Mario Bros 2 for the NES and some of the gameplay pays homage to the classic “Mario” game. The game is multiplayer and has the same lineup as Mario 2. Here’s a shock, each character has their own abilities. Luigi can jump high and Princess Toadstool can float momentarily. More than one account has said Toad is slow moving. That number would be 2 people and they were playing the demo with me.  Expect the game to be in stores for the holiday season, aka December.
