Now that we've gotten the crap out of the way, let's count down the best!
2012 was a year for bad films, sure, but it was also a significant year for some great ones. We're talking films that raised the bar in a number of ways, whether it was fantasy, romance or just plain having a good time. And there are a few that somehow barely missed getting on our list, including Rise of the Guardians, Safety Not Guaranteed and Jack Reacher, but don't hesitate on checking those out in the meantime.
Now time for the elite ten. Let us know what you think!
10. Wreck-It Ralph
"I'm gonna wreck it!" Usually, Pixar is the go-to team for CG-animated greatness on the Disney front, but Rich Moore and his crew did a splendid job with this, a fantastically fun movie that's fit for casual audiences and gamers alike. John C. Reilly shines in his role as Ralph, a villain who's tired of getting smashed up all the time and vows to make a name for himself by "game jumping". Supported by a great cast that includes Jack McBrayer and Sarah Silverman, and plenty of video game star cameos, it's a family treat that'll shine for generations to come.
For his third directorial effort (almost as stunning a record as our number one entry), Rian Johnson nails a grand slam out of the park with Looper, a thrilling sci-fi ride where assassins in the present eliminate garbage from the future with blunderbusses. But when superstar hitman Joseph Gordon-Levitt runs into himself from the future – in this case, Bruce Willis – all bets are off, and soon chaos of all kinds breaks loose. JGL and Willis are primed for their roles here, as are Emily Blunt as an innocent mother and Jeff Daniels as a Mafioso controller who's more effective than you might think. With twists galore, Looper is a must-see.
