The iPad app is the first-ever MMORPG/eReader, blending games with virtual books.

Poet Code LLC’s MMORPG/eReader application Dynasty of the Magi has received the award for Best Transmedia Project by the Publishing Innovation Awards judging panel. The award was accepted by Dynasty of the Magi creator Derrick Garvin and his team of developers during a ceremony put on by the Publishing Innovation Awards in New York City.

The Publishing Innovation Awards (PIA) recognizes the very best in eReaders across all digital mediums.  Judging in 14 categories and implementing strict guidelines for the entrants, the PIA is determined to support and acknowledge the eReader community through thoughtful review and well deserved award distribution. The PIA judging panel is made up of leading experts in digital publishing design and production.

The winner of the Best Transmedia Project recognizes the best, most innovative use of an eBook across multiple platforms. The story in Dynasty of the Magi is told across two platforms; the in-app eBook and a playable Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMO). The results of quests in the game give advantage to one of the sides, good or evil, in the following eBook in the series. This process allows the gamer to see how his or her actions have directly affected the plot of the story. The innovative combination of these two separate mediums has been dubbed by PoetCode, liMMO (literary immersive Massive Multiplayer Online Game).

“Our team has put in long hours and a lot of hard work to bring to life this new platform that pushes the boundaries of both gaming and reading,” said Derrick Garvin, founder of PoetCode and author of the Dynasty of the Magi franchise. “Our goal is continue to challenge what is possible with mobile app and eBook integration in an ever-growing transmedia market.”
