While there are thousands upon thousands of apps in both the iOS and Android app stores, few make the transition to consoles. Games like Angry Birds and Jetpack Joyride have made the jump, with Angry Birds even receiving both a digital and disc based release to consoles. The latest app to make the cross over is Doodle Jump for Kinect. Will this game have the same cross over appeal as other successful apps? Find out in our review!

The presentation of Doodle Jump for Kinect is exactly what you would expect. The game has been converted to handle HD television sets yet it still looks mediocre. Doodle Jump is not a visually impressive game and presenting it in HD TVs does more to hurt the game than help it. The game’s bland color palate and basic environments create a boring experience. The only other thing more boring than the visuals is the gameplay.

Doodle Jump for Kinect is a perfect example of why developers gave up on the current Kinect shortly after its launch. The Kinect has been viewed as a gimmick and Doodle Jump showcases that. To play Doodle Jump, you simply stand in front of your Kinect and move to the left and right. That’s it. And yes, you have to physically get up to do it. Not only do you need copious amounts of space, but you have to stand up to move The Doodler. Why this action could not have been mapped to the controller or even to the hands of the player are beyond me.

Doodle Jump for Kinect is a complete waste of space on any gamer’s system. The game is fun and down right adorable on mobile platforms, but is frustrating and unnecessary on consoles. The only thing Doodle Jump for Kinect does right is showcase why the current Kinect was a mistake by Microsoft. If you want to experience your connect in a unique way, give The Gunslinger a try.
